Graphic Design

For marketing managers and design decision-makers: In print design, determine the final product size, assess whether the image will print well, choose the appropriate paper, and select a printing press.

  1. Papers come in specific sizes. When selecting a size for a print job (such as a folding brochure, folder, booklet, or book), it is crucial to understand these sizes and their significance. Grasping how it works can help you plan your work efficiently, saving the customer money and reducing paper waste.
  2. There can be significant differences in how the same image or work appears on one computer screen compared to another, how it looks in digital printing versus offset printing, and even more so—if we use the same printing technique but switch the paper, we will obtain different results. A graphic designer specializing in print design is aware of these variations and understands how to achieve the desired final result.

  1. There are many different types of printing presses, and to those unfamiliar with the printing industry, they may appear quite similar. However, each printing press contains machines of varying sizes and printing techniques, and each specializes in a distinct field. It is crucial to tailor the printing press to the task at hand to achieve a quality result.
  2. I hate to admit it, but the truth must be told: some print productions have a gambling element, especially if you’ve chosen an adventurous designer. If you don’t have a sample of your logo’s specific color printed on a special paper of your choice, you can never know exactly how it will turn out. It can be a pleasant surprise or sometimes not. A good, responsible designer will share every step of the process with you.
  3. In preparing print artwork, there are many factors that designers must know, understand, and consider to ensure the printing press can successfully process the file and achieve a high-quality result.

One of the most thrilling moments in a designer’s print job is opening a box from the printing press and seeing the results. It’s exciting to admire a beautiful print, breathe in the scent of paper, and feel the quality texture. I’m here to tell you that print isn’t dead – it’s very much alive. A few years ago, I decided to specialize in print design exclusively, and I couldn’t be happier about it.
